End of season predictions

Posted by jimc on April 26, 2007 10:27 PM

Suffice to say I have not been winning in posting as regulary as I have previously done. But with the football season coming to it's exciting or doomed (if you are a West Ham fan) end, it's time for some last ditch predictions.

Premiership
Please let it be Man Utd

Champions League
The corrupt AC Milan to be unpopular champions

Going down
Joining Watford I hope Sheffield Utd and Wigan but fear it will probably be Charlton and ...the Hammers

Going up
Sunderland, Derby and I hope Colchester in the play offs.

If anyone is still reading - What are your predictions?
Have a go on the BBC end of season predictor (thanks John).

Cricket World Cup, Premiership and Champions league football, Racing, Golf and Murder...

I've managed to miss talking about the lot! Sometimes personal stuff gets in the way of putting your feet up and watching or blogging about sport.

Mrs Jim is pregnant! and we are expecting our second child at the end of September. Coming hot on the heels of our first born, Little Jim who will be 1 in mid August.

Cricket World Cup off to a flyer!

Fantastic to see the Windies win there opening match against Pakistan (against the odds). There has been a lot of talk about the West Indian decline most of it justified. But all cricket fans would love to them progress in the tournament. All major sporting events be it football, rugby or tennis are better for home teams or players doing well.

The last Cricket world cup in South Africa failed to capture the imagination mainly due to the home team's poor display, lets hope the tournament take off.

Must say though two pretty dull games today...Australia v Scotland and Kenya v Canada... come on the Scots! you never know...

Here's some highlights of 2003.

Champions League - Manchester United recieve some 'classic' french hospitality

Posted by jimc on February 21, 2007 9:22 AM

Another Champions League Tuesday another set of boring draws, or it least it was looking that way till the Manchester v Lille game burst into life (but thankfully not death).

There were concerns about the facilities before the match and reports suggest that Manc fans were sold tickets for the home end but were then allowed to go into the away end. The whole situation could have been prevented by playing the game in a big stadium such as Stade de France (capacity 70+) rather than the Lens stadium, which holds 42,000. Predictably the French police batons and tear gas started flying when fans tried to escape the crush.

With the amount of money flowing in the champions league surely these stadiums have to be bought up to scratch before teams are allowed to compete.

As for the match, the Lille coaching staff and players were a disgrace threatening to take their ball home because of Giggs cheeky but legal goal.

My favourite part of the match though was a red faced (is there any other kind) Alex Ferguson berating an interfering Gary Neville for trying to get in amongst it with the Lille players. My god Neville is annoying, right up there with Savage.

Lots of wind (and not Neill Warnock)

Nevermind the race for the Premiership (Man U will still win it). The best action I saw at the weekend was this clip on Football Focus. The wind interupted the match, but unbelievably they carried on the game until lightning struck! The South African footballers are a bit tougher than ours.
